FAQs

Does temperature affect my battery performance?
Lithium-Ion batteries are resilient to cold temperatures. However, we always recommend charging and storing the battery in a safe, dry, room-temperature environment. Long-term cold weather use/storage can allow the internal temperature of the battery to drop away. If the internal temperature of the battery drops below -17°C voltage output may be reduced, and battery communication may be affected. However, if a cold battery is brought back into a safe, dry, room temperature environment and allowed to warm up (should take no more than 10-20 minutes) then there should be no long-term negative impact on battery performance or lifespan. Please note that we recommend placing the battery on the charger after it has returned to room temperature to ensure maximum charge when in use.
Can this unit be used on gravel?
We do not recommend using our single-stage snow throwers or our snow shovels on gravel surfaces. Gravel, stones, or any loose surface material will be picked up and thrown by the snow thrower, causing damage to the unit and potentially nearby property and people.
What is the recommended ambient temperature range?
Snow throwers can be stored at any temperature if the environment is sheltered (indoors) and dry. Batteries and chargers should always be stored indoors at room temperature.
How large of a driveway can be cleared with this product?
Our single-stage snow thrower kits are often supplied with enough battery capacity to cover the average 4-car driveway. It is important to note that the overall run time received is ultimately determined by the load acting against the unit and will fluctuate.
How difficult are Greenworks single-stage snow throwers to assemble?
Our units have been designed for quick and easy assembly! The majority of single-stage units can be assembled in approximately 15 minutes. All instructions are clearly detailed within the owner's manual supplied with your purchase. If you should have any questions or concerns, we would be happy to provide assistance.
My chute is clogged with snow, what should I do?
Heavy or icy snow may cause the discharge chute to become clogged while in use. If you do get a clog, DO NOT attempt to unclog it with your hands or feet. Instead, turn your machine off and wait at least 10 seconds for it to fully stop. Then, use a chute-clearing brush or a similar object to clear the clog (not included). Operating Tip: If you notice that the chute is clogging often, try adjusting the angle of the chute and impeller speed (if applicable).
How far can the snow thrower discharge snow?
The distance that snow is thrown varies depending on the type of snow, wind, and angle of the chute deflector. Light snow will have a greater throwing distance in comparison to wet/heavy snowfalls.
Are skid shoes wearable parts?
Yes. Greenworks skid shoes are wearable; wearable parts carry a 90-day warranty against wear and tear.
What battery is compatible with this tool?
Only Greenworks batteries, chargers, and machines of the same voltage are compatible and interchangeable with one another. Please be advised that the higher the ampere-hour (Ah) rating is on a battery, the more run time it can provide.
Can it be used on slopes or hills?
Yes, this unit can be operated on slopes and or hills. Always exercise extreme caution when operating on slopes and ensure you have proper footing and balance at all times.
Can I put chains on the tires to prevent slipping?
No, the wheels on our single-stage snow thrower models are not designed for use with tire chains.
What are the benefits of having an adjustable impeller speed?
The benefit of having an adjustable impeller speed ensures that the unit can be used in a variety of areas and conditions. A lower auger speed usually translates to a smaller throwing distance - low speed also gives the user more control so that you can direct the snow where you want and avoid overshooting or re-covering previously cleared areas. When operating the unit at a higher speed, you can throw the snow further when the space allows and clear the area more quickly. Operating Tip: If you notice that the chute is clogging often, try speeding up the auger.
What is the impeller made of?
Most Greenworks impellers are made of plastic. The exception is the Greenworks 80V 22”, which uses a metal/rubber impeller assembly. The dual-stage models use fully metal impellers.
Is it difficult to use snow shovel/thrower with an extension cord?
It does take time to get used to having a cord attach to your snow shovel, we suggest keeping the electric cord as close to the outlet as you can and then move away from the outlet, so the slack always stay on the side you are moving away from or put the cord over your shoulder. That way it is always behind you while using the snow shovel but over time it will get easier to manage.
What are the benefits of a circular cord head?
The benefit of a circular cord head; the head of the power cable is designed to be circular; this is to ensure the power cable from the unit can securely hold an extension cord and to reduce any chance of moisture or snow from getting into the two parts. The head of the power cord is flexible, any universal single head outdoor extension cord will fit, simply squeeze the sides, and insert the extension cord.
Are the Skid Plates wearable? What are they made of?
Greenworks skid plates are a wearable; wearable parts carry a 90-day warranty against wear and tear. Most of our units have a metal skid plates except for our 22" snow thrower models which have a nylon design.
Can you lubricate the snow chute to throw snow further?
Lubricant can be used to reduce clogging which can prevent the snow thrower from throwing at capacity. However, please keep in mind the heavier the snow the less it will be thrown. To reduce the issues with snow clogging which can affect performance you can use an ice repellent or Teflon spray.

Great item and great customer service!

I'm a big fan of this item and of the manufacturer. To start, I've used the snowblower in my region (northern Quebec) where I do receive a LOT of snow and it worked better than I expected. It's perfect for most types of snow (not that good for heavy wet snow), it's quick and easy to use and it's so lightweight that I can easily bring it up on my porch. I used it for 3 months totalHad a small issue two weeks ago, the motor quit working after a snowstorm and I called customer service. They were fantastic honestly, they could not find a service center near me so they replaced the unit free of charge. Unfortunately, the customer service lady told me that they did not have the 40volt model anymore so they sent me the 60 volts one.I am more than satisfied with the product and extremely happy with their very efficient customer service. I highly recommend this product and produt line.

Cordless Dnowblower

Wow!!! I have owned both gas & corded snowblowers. I have to say this is the easiest product I have ever purchased. Very light and easy to start and manipulate. This is the first unit my wife was able to use. Having the lights was a bonus. Storage is easy with the folded handle. The battery lasted for two completed driveway cleaning two weeks apart. Maybe onger but put on charger that was included do always ready. Battery slips in very easy and ready to go. Highly recommend this item.

I didn't have great expectations considering the size but have been pleasantly surprised. One issue with Amazon, however. I ordered this Used-Like New and when I received it there was a knob to attach the handle missing. Now, I don't know if it was missing when originally purchased by someone else or if it was lost by the original buyer, all I DO know is Amazon does not really check returned items for broken/missing parts. This is the second time this has happened. All that said, I called Greenworks and they were awesome, sending me a new knob. I was able to "rig" a bolt and nut in the meantime. I used it on my back walk where I develop significant snow drifts. The photos are of an18 inch deep drift, and it cut it down with three passes so I could walk there. I expect it to do great in 6-8 inches of snow on the driveway. It is light enough for me and easy to store. I'm very happy.

Ok so female here...and I typically put things together without reading instructions first. The instructions were tucked away in the blades so in my defense I didn't see them until I was almost done. So here is the thing all you have to do is open the box and make sure that the chute lever is positioned correctly to nut and bolt it into position. It has to be under the horriziontal bar prior to screwing the handle in place. If you PAY attention to that info it will take you no more than 15 minutes tops to put this together. If it is NOT under the horizontal bar you will NOT be able to adjust the snow chute to one side. So here's to hoping it does my back well in the north east this winter. We haven't had much snow in the last few years in PA and I know that we are due. I got it for 46.00 new a few weeks back. Now I see the price has jumped. Still at 80.00 an electric shovel with wheels is well worth it.

Got over a foot of heavy snow last night. I was able to clear my long drive way. I was afraid it will overheat. Eventually it did, but it automatically shut down and reset once cool off. Not bad for a little snow electric shovel/blower.

Bon investissement

After breaking my back shoveling snow and then seeing all of my neighbors gingerly steering these electric ones, I got over my “keeping up with the joneses” disdain and just bought one, if not to save time, then to save my aching back!Pics of before, after, and next morning.Took me about an hour to do the whole L shaped driveway, snow was pretty tall, so took two passes in some spots; once I got the hang of not RAMMING it but going up and over and then pushing through for two passes, it went easier.Great machine- be sure to buy a LONNGG extension cord.

I was surprised by this thing's ability to cut through the thick xnow. Although it works best on light new fallen snow, it can also cut through heavy ice and snow. The images are how well it cut through 14" of packed ice and snow. I had to take small bites at a time, but that was no big deal. 10 minutes later, it was all done and my back was happy! It's really light and easy to use. The fact that it's corded can be a bit annoying, but for the price, I'm very pleased!

First off, I want to disclose that I am a disabled, middle aged man. I have hip pain, knee pain, foot pain, and I am also a kidney transplant patient. In other words, I am all jacked up. I don’t have a lot of energy.I live in Northern Wyoming, where we get quite a bit of snow, and using a shovel, at this point in my life, isn’t even an option. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a gas powered blower, so I decided to try this Greenworks, 16-inch, 10 Amp Snow Blower.I always read customer reviews, and especially the negative ones. After doing so with this blower, I was a little wary of buying it, but something told me to do it anyway. Because many buyers complained about burnt up motors, I decided to do short passes, so the engine could cool down between those passes. If you are in a hurry when you move snow, don’t buy this machine. It’s only 10 amps, you need a gas blower. If your snow is super deep, and really wet, it may burn up your blower as well.Because we get quite a bit of snow at times, I will use the Greenworks Snow Blower multiple times during really big snow storms, so I am not having to move too much at once.I purchased the Greenworks blower early in the Fall, and it has performed perfectly through our harsh Wyoming Winter.I most emphatically recommend this blower for people who are not in a hurry, who don’t want to spend a small fortune on a gas snow blower, and for people who aren’t trying to remove snow off of a mile long driveway.

I live in Michigan, am a 74 year old woman, and hate to shovel lots of snow. I live in the country on a hill and have a sidewalk from my front porch, about 25' long, and with many steps down to the driveway and a large deck, about 20' X 20' off the back door. I like to keep this free of snow, as if I don't, ice develops under the snow and it becomes slippery and dangerous to walk on. I'm in the slowly backyard daily playing ball with my four dogs. I wanted a snow cleaner that was electric, too hard for me to pull-start anymore, light enough to carry through the house for front and back snow clearing, and at a reasonable price. This GreenWorks electric snow shovel meets all my requirements. I don't know why they call it a snow shovel, as you never lift it as you would a shovel, but it works as a snow blower. Others have complained that the snow can blow back in your face. True, if you were foolish enough to push it toward the wind, which I never did. The directional lever works well, directing the snow in front or to either side. It clears a couple of inches of snow very nicely. It is very light and easy to push. I bought a long electric cord made for cold weather, however it is still stiff and you need to stop at times and put it out of the way of the snow blower, not that much trouble. My only complaint is that my steps are too narrow and curved to allow me to use the blower, but they are easy to do with a small shovel. That's not the fault of the blower, but the design of my steps. Still, if you had many, many narrow steps, you might want a different product. The price was good, $117.00 complete. We have had lots of snow lately and my sidewalk and deck are now snow free.

Great for senior citizens! Arrived the night before a predicted snowfall here in the Mid Atlantic. Very easy to assemble for an over 70 year old, light weight, quality construction. Next morning I woke up to 6" of snow accumulation and still snowing and having read some of the reviews, I decided to get right out and try it out. I have a sloping 75' paved driveway (will not work on gravel driveways - throws rocks!) that it worked on beautifully. Was able to clear the entire driveway in about 30 minutes. Once it stopped snowing, I was able to touch it up perfect. Some things to note (not really cons as they are cautioned in the owner manual):1. Make sure you buy a power cord that can handle 10 Amps or more.2. It tends to blow snow straight ahead no matter how you set the directional vanes.3. Only for paved driveways as it will throw rocks and damage the blower.

Terrible. Wouldn’t work

So disappointed. I was so depressed when with 2 fully charged batteries I only got 30 mins total out in 4 tries then it could not start at all. The first time 10 mins, second 7mins, 3 rd 7 mins and last 6 mins. Each time it could not be restarted. I was so upset. I thought it would be as good as as my greenworks lawnmower. How can I get my money back bac?..

You can’t beat this product! Be careful not to run over stuff. But this works very well! I don’t want to deal with batteries (especially lithium batteries in the cold). Yes, using a cord is a bit of a pain, but I’m used to it. I also would have had to replace expensive batteries by now. I’m often done removing snow by the time my neighbors get their gasoline snow blowers started!A coworker bought this for her husband, he sort of laughed at first. She told me he uses it ll the time and also likes it a lot.

Good product

I bought this thrower for Saskatchewan. My first use, I tackled a foot and a half of snow in my back yard that had been there for over a month, and had been rained on. The machine couldn’t handle the whole foot and a half, but if I pushed it in several passes, it worked well. It often cut off if I tried too much snow or hit an icy layer, but I just restarted it and tried again. It is light and easy to maneuver. The battery lasted longer than I thought it would considering how hard I was making it work. It is easy to assemble, to adjust the discharge, and to get along edges. I would definitely recommend this product (I bought it $100 off during Prime Days).

Works as advertised which is okay for me but if you regularly have a lot of snow 60 volt would be better, our average snowfall is around 5/10 centimeters.

I was skeptical about this unit as it has mixed reviews. But it does a great job! Light weight, I got the 5amp/hr battery, have no problem getting my corner lot done a few times on one charge.
