FAQs

Are replacement blades available?
The blade is a part of the motor assembly and is not able to be easily replaced by the customer; the blade should be sharpened instead. We do not advise the customer for any of our hedge trimmers to sharpen the blade themselves unless they are familiar with this task. In most cases, it is required to take the unit to a qualified technician for sharpening.
Can a pole be attached to make this a pole hedge trimmer?
Unfortunately, this is not an option for our designated handheld trimmers.
What to do if blade has jammed (motor hums, blades not moving)?
Option A – Unit has anti-jamming function: If the branch is blocked in the blade, press the anti-jamming button on the control panel, the blade will reverse twice, and the branch should be released. You can clean the blades by removing any other dirt and debris using a paint brush and then applying a light machine oil. WD-40 or a similar product is recommended. Please make sure to remove power source before cleaning. Option B – Model does not have anti-jam function: To rectify a jam, start by removing the battery or unplugging your unit. Clear the debris and then you can clean the blades by removing any dirt and debris using a paint brush and then applying a light machine oil. WD-40 or a similar product is recommended.
Why aren’t my blades cutting well?
Typically, this is because of sap or debris being caught between the blades (refer to question, what to do if blade has jammed) or the blade may need to be sharpened.
Is there an auto button so that I do not have to continuously hold down the trigger
As a safety precaution, none of our hedge trimmers have an automatic on button that will allow the customer to operate the unit without holding onto the trigger.
What oil do I use to lubricate the blades?
Customers can use a light machine oil to lubricate the blades.
What is the run time?
The run time will vary depending on the battery in use and will fluctuate depending on the load and user technique. However, hedge trimmers that come with a 2.0Ah battery can provide up to 50 minutes of run time under a light load.
What hedge trimmer is right for me?
Like many of our tools, hedge trimmers are produced in a wide range of sizes and powers. Our lightweight 2.7A is extremely easy to handle and very useful for people without a great need to trim their hedges, the G-max pole saw is ideal for users with tall, difficult to reach hedges and the 60V and the 80V are perfect for heavy duty, long period hedge trimming. Commercial users should refer to our 82V line.
What is the cutting capacity?
Depending on the model, the cutting capacity varies between 5/8” or 1.2”. Refer to the owner’s manual for specifics
Why won’t my hedge trimmer turn on?
Battery operated: A lot of the time this means the battery hasn’t been fully inserted. On both the charger and the unit, you will know the battery is properly secured in when you hear a click sound. You also will be able to determine if the battery is fully inserted because you won't be able to pull the battery back out without pushing the button located on the battery. If the handle rotates, ensure that it is locked in position, or the unit will not start. Corded: Ensure that the correct extension cord is being used as advised in the ‘Electrical’ section of the manual and that the cord has not become loose at the outlet or connection on the trimmer. If the handle rotates, ensure that it is locked in position, or the unit will not start.
Do I need to put oil in from time to time?
No, our hedge trimmers are oil free and do not require any oil. However, you can apply general light machine oil to the blade from time to time to help lubricate and maintain the sharpness of the blade
Does the hedge trimmer have safety lock if I accidently drop it?
If the hedge trimmer is accidentally dropped, the hedge trimmer will turn off and the blade will coast to a stop after several seconds. The hedge trimmer will then be locked in the off position again.
What is a pole hedge trimmer?
Pole hedge trimmers are regular hedge trimmers attached to a pole. They are used for cutting high hedges without using a ladder.
Can I add additional poles to my pole hedge trimmer?
No. We do not advise adding additional extensions.
Can the poles be removed to convert to a handheld hedge trimmer?
We do not have a model that allows you to convert between a pole hedger and handheld hedge trimmer. However, some models do allow you to remove the middle extension pole to shorten the unit by a few feet.
How should I hold a pole hedge trimmer?
For best balance when using a pole hedge trimmer, do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Practicing proper footing and balance ensures that you will have proper control of the tool in unexpected situations. Always hold the unit firmly with both hands; keep your left hand on the pole shaft and your right hand on the rear handle, so your body is to the left of the blade line. Never use a left-handed (cross-handed) grip, or any stance that places your body or arm across the blade line. Ensure that you maintain a proper grip on the unit whenever the motor is running. For further details, refer to your owner’s manual.
Can I trim groundcover with a pole hedge trimmer?
The pole hedge trimmer is ideal for high level, hard to reach branches. It is not recommended to be used for ground cover as it is not ergonomically suited for low cutting.

I originally picked this Greenworks tool up with lawn edging in mind. I know, I know, that is what weed whackers are for, but I never mastered the art of neatness with one and saw this as a no brainer alternative to getting down and using manual shears. They did a perfect job, so I was happy as that is what I originally got them for.For years I have been trimming my shrubs with manual shears. Snip. snip to perfection. I had tried electric hedge trimmers in the past and I think the size of them made it awkward for me to get a perfect trim, so I would get out there with the manual shears and a pair of scissors and go to work. Of course that would end up taking most of the day to complete. I decided to try the shrub trimming attachment, mainly due to its unintimidating size. It is a small trimmer and very easy to use with one hand. I started on the back of the bushes just incase it was not going to work for me and found that it worked like a knife through butter. Perfectly shaping and easy to maneuver. Now I find that this tool works great for both trimming and edging!A perfect combo in a compact size, taking up less room in the garage. I wish they had included a storage bag, but I can't complain. Greenworks makes great products and has made my life easier. The Greenworks 24V Cordless shears are very easy to use, lightweight and easy to swap out between the two blade types. The battery life really impressed the heck out of me. Way longer than I was expecting, infact, I got all of my shrubs done on a single charge with battery to spare. That had to be just over an hour anyway.I would highly recommend Greenworks!

This is great for maintaining hedges. I've used this for my bushes and it is way easier than my huge one to maneuver around without getting an arm workout. I was also able to use the shorter attachment to cut/trim the grass around my back patio. The only thing that I would want to make these better, is better protective covers for the attachment blades. These come with plastic coverings that are flimsy.

Love love love this hedge trimmer. It is so light weight and very easy to use. You can rotate it two ways for easier cutting. I cut dead branches off of a tree with no problem. I never had to go over anything twice-it took care of it the first time around! There is a button on the battery to check the battery level.I like that I don’t have to mess with gas or cords just install a battery and use!I can’t wait to try this with my fall cuttings. I’ve been cutting everything back with hedge shears and it gets to be too much. This will be so nice and save me so much time.

This trimmer weights just under 8 lbs. It's easy to handle with an ergonomic rotating grip, has enough power to cut any hedges and handles small branches with ease. Battery life is impressive. Can easily trim a large yard on a single charge with the 4 AH battery. So much better than lugging around a cord.Minor gripe, the blade guard is not ideal. It slides on and doesn't cover the top of the blades, letting in dust during storage.Overall good kit and decent price with the battery and charger. This review will be updated if there are any long term durability issues.

The hedge trimmer is very easy to set up. All you need to do is charge the battery and install it into the handle. To charge the unit, you simply plug in the charger and insert the battery. The charger will blink while charging and will go solid once fully charged. The battery has a built-in charge level indicator that you press to show the level of charge. The unit should display three lights when it has a full charge, and one light when the charge is becoming low. My trimmer is defective, in that the third light (which indicates that the battery is at more than 80% of its capacity) never lights, despite the charger indicating a full charge. I uploaded a photo of this defect. I suspect that the third light is either burned out or not connected properly, since I was able to operate on-and-off for about an hour before the second light went out (indicating that the battery is below 50% capacity). I do not think that if the battery were already below 80% when I started trimming, that I would have gotten that much use out of the trimmer before it reached 50% capacity. It took one hour to charge the battery from 50% to full charge. The manual lists the total charge time as two hours for an exhausted battery. The battery is a large-capacity 24-volt 4Ah (4,000 mAh) lithium-ion battery that seemed well-suited for this trimmer. There is a built-in USB charge port that allows the battery to double as a battery bank for charging other electronic devices. That feature worked well. While I do not have a lot of hedges, the trimmer ran on-and-off for about an hour, which was long enough for me to trim them all, and it still had 50% battery capacity left. The cutting blade did a great job of cutting through all of the branches of my hedges. Until it is used more, I will not know how sharp the blade will remain. I did not test the maximum branch size that the trimmer will cut, but the manual advises a 3/4" limit. The trimmer has a rotating handle which will turn the cutting blade 90-degrees to either the left or right. This is especially handy for making vertical cuts without having to twist your hands, and it creates a more comfortable working position. With an operating weight of just 6.8 pounds the trimmer is not exhausting to use. This trimmer gets two thumbs up!

I had never used a trimmer before and was a bit intimidated, but this trimmer was very light weight and easy to control. The swivel feature on the handle allows cutting at multiple angles without needing to be in awkward positions. It cuts precisely and with ease.

Very light weight and maneuverable. Seems to have good battery life and cuts well. I highly recommend this. The button the allows the handle to turn and lock in different positions is awesome. Well done!

Great product. Large blade that makes it easy to get all the grass in one swipe. I used this 3 times on several areas and still had battery power. Snaps apart easily to clean. Would recommend to anyone that needs a trimmer.

I love this trimmer

Purchased this because because the Ryobi wasn't available but all well I will give it a try. I was not disappointed it worked just as good if not better then the Ryobi it cut through my little hedge like butter and hardly used much battery after a half hour of continuous use. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a light duty trimmer.

Greenworks has always had very slow shipping and great products.I wish I would have gotten this earlier! Easy to handle. Light in weight, (I am older). Long battery life. Nice cover for blade. It would be nice if they would work on their shipping.

Easy to use, strong and doesn’t hurt my arm like the trimmer/edger did. Have used it to shape a bush, trim long grass around a raised bed, and keep mint at bay, which is the best you can do! Battery lasts longer than I do, but I did purchase a backup just in case.

Works perfectly, uses same long-lasting batteries across tools, durable, and fairly light. Excellent price, too. I’d buy the same one again.

It's so easy to use. I have 2 acres and have other tools but this really comes in handy for certain areas. It's extremely well made, as are all the Greenworks products I have. I highly recommend it. The blades are sharp and move quickly so you'll want to use caution when using it. But it's great!!

I purchased this trimmer because I was tired of dealing with the cord on my old electric trimmer. I works great for the types of shrubs in my yard. Light weight, easy to use, cuts clean

I live in a condo and just have a small amount of hedges. I like to keep my small space looking neat so I purchased this trimmer, leaf blower, and grass string trimmer. The hedge trimmer shares batteries with the trimmer, so that saved on the purchase price. The hedge trimmer is amazingly light and easy to operate. It comes with an easy to use blade cover for safe storage. I am very satisfied with all my Greenworks tools.

I love this cordless hedge clipper! I used corded ones for years and finally decided to spring for cordless ones. I’m glad I did! They hold a charge well and I was able to cut 3 times before deciding to charge them. They are light weight and actually lighter than my old ones. No more shoulder and arm soreness the day after yard work!
