- What is a pole saw?
- Pole saws are basically stretched chainsaws with the controls and the motor head separated by a long pole. They tend to have shorter bars and chains than full size chainsaws and are primarily used for pruning and light lopping. Users should take basic, common safety precautions and follow proper operating procedure when using the units to avoid injury.
- How should I hold my pole saw?
- For best balance when using a pole saw do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Practicing proper footing and balance ensures that you will have proper control of the tool in unexpected situations. Always hold the unit firmly with both hands; keep your left hand on the pole shaft and your right hand on the rear handle, so your body is to the left of the chain line. Never use a left-handed (cross-handed) grip, or any stance that places your body or arm across the chain line. Ensure that you maintain a proper grip on the unit whenever the motor is running. For further details, refer to your owner’s manual.
- What safety precautions should be taken?
- Only use pole saws for their intended purpose. Pole saws are great for pruning and trimming of hard-to-reach branches. Think about where the branch being cut may fall. As this is sometimes unpredictable, do not stand under the branch being cut. Try to keep the tree between yourself and the branch being trimmed (as a kind of shield from falling debris). Keep bystanders at least 50’ from the tree being worked-on. Always take your time. When removing long, heavy branches cut in stages, cutting off small sections to reduce the impact of any falling debris. Start with lower branches so debris can fall more easily and not get stuck, causing a future hazard.
- How thick of a branch can I cut?
- Pole saws are typically used on branches less than 6” in diameter.
- Can the pole saw be used for hedges?
- The pole saw would be capable of trimming hedges; however, a pole hedger would be more appropriate for the job and leave a cleaner look.
- Can you remove the poles and use this as a chainsaw?
- No. This unit cannot be converted to a chainsaw. However, some models allow you the ability to remove the middle extension pole to shorten the unit by a few feet.
- Can I use my pole saw to trim items lower to the ground?
- The pole saw is designed for high level hard to reach branches. It is not ergonomically suited for low cutting and extreme caution should be taken.

This 24V pole saw effectively cuts limbs up to 2.5" diameter and offers adjustable length for versatility. Customers said it "works well" for tree trimming with good battery life and power. However, some experienced chain retention issues and difficulty controlling at full extension. Concerns about customer service responsiveness and product generation mismatches were noted.

The unit works reasonably well. I find it hard to control at full length. It wants to bounce or jump off branch. After some getting used to I was able to complete my task relatively easily. I'm good with the unit, I just need it less often than I thought when I made the purchase.
The pole saw is completely useless because the chain does not stay on. Such a waste of money.
Bought this product a month ago and love it.
I bought this saw to replace some part on an existing saw that I purchased 5 years ago. Original product was so good that I wanted to keep it and replace some worn out parts. I fount the saw on the web site and ordered the same Model # as the original. Picture matched the product I originally purchased. Turns out generation 1 and 2 have the same model # but are made much differently. No parts are interchangeable and the new one is much lighter made. I emailed from the web site with no response. Spent 3 hours on customer service only to talk to a contractor. Sent numerous pictures to the contracted answering service. Finally received an email from the company stating that I could return it at my cost for a refund. I sent pictures to that email and finally resolved the confusion. They would take back the saw and send me the correct model #. I still have not received the saw yet. Great product but web site and customer service leave something to be desired.
We building our 24v Greenworks tool set and this is an essential for spring tree trimming. We have used this on several smaller hard-to-reach limbs and it has worked well. The battery life is good as well. It would be nice if they included a little bottle of chain oil to get you started.
Returned it after using it to make 4 cuts. It started making squealing noise.
This is a great tool for fast and easy pruning. Easily cuts up to 2.5 diameter limbs. Plenty of power and the length adjustment is very handy.
If you have low hanging tree branches that you have to avoid while mowing this tool pays for itself in less than 1 hour. I trimmed 4 large trees within an hour of opening the box.
This is a great product. Works exactly as you would anticipate it would. And comparable w/ my exiting battery & charger!
I tried to register this product but didn't have an invoice/sales slip to prove I bought it from Greenworks. Without the invoice one cannot register a product. I e-mailed Greenworks and have yet to receive a reply but they can send out requests for reviews. Here then is my review: Customer service isn't very good especially if you purchased the product from Greenworks.
Should have bought this 2 years ago to go along with my 10 inch chain saw
